feature fridays: empire machines

empire machines – ep

my friend and i always joke about how our dream job would be to make up names for the latest nail polish and lipstick colors (we aim high, people). i’m now adding to that list band names. i mean, how much fun must it be to pick out the moniker by which your group will henceforth be known? a daunting task, surely, with all of the possibilities. but what an amazing adventure. equally awesome: designing album covers. take the empire machines – ep cover, for example. mosaic dinosaurs running amok? yes, please! i would totally hang this on my wall.

here are a couple of songs from the album. if like what you hear, you can download the entire empire machines ep for free right here.

happy listening,
alicia

feature fridays: DOM

6 Jan

it’s friday! thank goodness. i don’t know about you, but i am so ready to wave good-bye to this week with a glass of wine and great company. and, if you’re like me—and the millions of others still clinging to their new year’s resolution to get healthy—some exercising may be in your future. which brings me to DOM. though neither albums are new, sun bronzed greek gods (bonus track version) and family of love are in heavy rotation on my running playlist. if MGMT and beach fossils had a baby, it’s name would be DOM. the result is some seriously swoon-worthy stuff.

happy listening,
alicia

hi, loves! it’s friday and i’m in love … with we are trees! i hope you, too, fall for the sleepy sound of this little indie duo.

if you like what you hear, check out the official we are trees website where you can download digital versions of boyfriend (2010) and girlfriend (2011) for a mere $1 each.

happy listening,
alicia

feature fridays: the drums

4 Nov

i freely admit that the name of this band is what initially prompted me to listen—i have always been a sucker for drummers. but it’s the music that keeps me listening.

this indie trio from brooklyn, ny, hit the ground running last year with a self-titled album, which rolling stone dubbed “one of the best indie pop debuts of the year.” this september, the drums released an even stronger—in my opinion, at least—follow-up album: portamento. but with influences like the smiths and joy division, how can you go wrong?

happy listening,
alicia ❤

Oh, and a shout out to my love on her special day. Happy Birthday, La La! this video’s for you.
